Dazed and Confused

I watched Dazed and confused again today. Well not so much watched as listened to as I did some stuff on the computer. Seems I spend more and more time with these damn computers. This is one of the movies I put in pretty regularly. I've got The Replacements going right now. [ Bret Domrose has a good song in it called Second Chance] Ghost Town has a great soundtrack too. Most of the movies I watch a lot have soundtracks I like. It's either that or black and white films. I am mesmerized by them. I don't like tv so I don't watch it.
Back to 1976. I think Dazed and Confused has almost every type of person you will know in your lifetime. I was Michelle the one Milla Jovovich played. I always like staying on the fringes and observing and partying of course. I knew all those kids , the ones I knew had different names but they were the same types. I'll bet anyone can watch it and identify with one of the kids in it. The seventies were so different. It seems de rigour to knock the seventies but I loved them. Some of the best music I've known came in the seventies. I really believe it was the ultimate time to be a teenager. We really had no parental or adult supervision. Our teachers held no authority over us and the cops weren't all that interested either. I got my first car when I was thirteen , I had been able to go to the liquor store since I was twelve, we had bon fires and beer runs and there was always beer, wine  and pot, lots of pot. You could buy a quarter pound for ninety dollars back then. Can you imagine ? I got emancipated when I was thirteen and had been in my own apartment for over a year by the summer of 1976. I didn't know it then but that would be the best summer of my life.
I was engaged but not married yet to my first husband Marc. I had  a fifty four VW. It was dark blue with a white rag top.  I loved that fecking car. I had an apartment down on the avenue and was living better than I ever had before. I only had to work the one job then and it was night shift so I had spare time, something I wasn't used to. I got to lay out that summer and had a great tan .

Yeah I know all the dangers of the sun but you know what, if we do everything these assholes say we should then what the hell kind of life is that. Bunch of white slugs crawling under their rocks afraid of everything. Don't smoke don't drink don't do drugs don't have sex don't don't don't.
No one said don't in the seventies. I guess that's a lot of why it couldn't last. 1976 had some of the best fecking music ever made come out. Bob Seger ,Boston , Thin Lizzie, Frampton, my God it was heaven it was like it would never end. You know how it is when your young and the world hasn't beaten you into the ground yet.
But of course the only thing that stays the same is that everything changes. Back from the world of dreams...and on with life.

Cheers, Amelie
